Biography

Mehrteab Leul Kokeb is a senior law professional with 25 years of experience in corporate and transactional matters. Mehrteab has expertise and experience in project finance assignments as well. Currently, in MLA, in addition to managing the law office, Mehrteab Leul is practicing both on project finance and corporate matters. He is skilled in providing multidimensional legal services to individual and corporate clients on the structuring of transactions, facility agreements and security arrangements making sure clients are utilizing their resources efficiently.

Selected Experience

• Assisted a number of clients in developing country-specific strategies to develop their business which include General Electric and Coca-Cola.
• Actively worked in a number of cases for the registration of foreign companies in Ethiopia and all corporate issues the clients have.
• Actively worked on private equity acquisition transactions.
• Advised the Ethiopian government in a project finance transaction in the cross-border pipeline project.
• Assisted foreign banks including Exim Bank of China and China Development Bank on a number sovereign debts extended to the Ethiopian government on the regulatory jurisdictional matters. 
• Assisted clients who are sponsors of IPP projects in Ethiopia on a wide range of issues.
• Responsible for developing a heavy industrial project where the Ethiopian government and a multinational company are partners which includes preparing project development agreement between the sponsors, term sheets for the different agreements to be signed, identification of risks and all issues related to project finance.
• Assisted in developing case strategy for a court case pending in the London high court with a government-owned state enterprise.
