Dawit Worku

Trainee Associate

Dawit Worku is a Trainee Associate at MLA with a distinguished academic and practical background. Having joined MLA following a successful internship, he brings a deep understanding of MLA’s practice and operations. Dawit’s professional foundation is further strengthened by prior internships at a leading corporate law firm and a Regional High Court, providing him with a comprehensive perspective on both commercial transactions and judicial proceedings. During his stay at Hawassa University, Dawit actively participated in a range of extracurricular initiatives, including designing and implementing student-led projects, providing free legal aid services, and serving as a research assistant to a university-affiliated scholar. He also held leadership roles in student organizations and participated in both internal and international moot court competitions, notably the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competitions, which is considered the largest of its kind globally.

  • Advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, including transaction structuring, share transfers, legal due diligence, drafting transaction documents, and liaising with regulatory authorities;
  • Advising on employment and labour matters, including workforce restructuring, drafting and reviewing employment contracts and policies, and representing clients in employment-related disputes;
  • Advising foreign clients on investment structuring and business establishment in Ethiopia, including regulatory requirements and sector-specific considerations;
  • Drafting, reviewing, and revising a wide range of commercial contracts;
  • Assisting in the preparation of jurisdictional due diligence reports;
  • Advising clients on Ethiopian tax laws, including the application of double tax treaties, tax compliance and exemptions, and assisting with tax disputes and litigation (including drafting objections and appeals);
  • Preparing legal opinions on regulatory, tax, and commercial matters;
  • Assisting in civil litigation matters, including developing legal strategy, coordinating with external counsel, and drafting and reviewing pleadings.
