Helina Asamnew is an Associate in MLA’s Employment and Immigration Practice. She advises various companies, non-governmental organizations, and diplomatic missions on employment and immigration matters. Prior to joining MLA, she worked at an Ethiopian law firm and served as an in-house advisor for a multinational corporation

  • Advised a U.S. based non-governmental organization on implementing a workforce reduction process within its project in Ethiopia, ensuring compliance with local labor law and mitigating legal risks.
  • Assisted a diplomatic mission in introducing workforce restructuring and provided guidance on employee termination in accordance with Ethiopian law.
  • Advised various USAID implementing partners on managing employment relationships following the U.S. President’s Executive Order on Reevaluating and Realigning United States Foreign Aid, ensuring compliance with Ethiopian labor law.
  • Advised a Dutch animal feed production Company on managing the employment relationship with managerial employees who are also Board of Directors members, ensuring compliance with legal requirements
  • Advised a Czech Republic-based company on assigning employees to work in Ethiopia without establishing a presence there, and on the implications of this arrangement under Ethiopian employment and immigration law.
  • Advised the European Union on the process of transferring its employees from its various delegation offices in Ethiopia
  • Assisted multiple companies and NGOs with end-to-end immigration processes, including work and residence permit applications, renewals, cancellations, and visa extensions.
