Liya Desta

Liya Desta is a trainee associate at MLA who is a graduate and a gold medalist from Jimma University School of Law. Liya has also earned top honors as the highest scorer of National exit exam. Liya has a strong foundation in legal research from her academic background. Prior to joining MLA, Liya interned in different organizations and participated in legal aid. She is currently engaging in various practice groups in MLA. From her involvement, Liya has developed a keen interest in Corporate, Tax and Finance.

Advised clients on Ethiopia’s Antitrust and competition laws;
Prepared a due diligence document review and advised the client as to the health of the corporate documents;
Advised foreign companies on the requirement on commencing a certain business activity;
Reviewed Mining agreements and Medical Insurance Contracts;
Advised companies on their compliance obligation;
Prepared legal opinion on the feasibility of contract manufacturing model under Ethiopian law
Advised clients on the regulatory environment of digital lending for foreigners in Ethiopia
