Yohannes Hailu

Legal Director, Litigation, Arbitration & Regulatory

Yohannes Hailu is a Legal Director in MLA’s Litigation, Arbitration, and Regulatory Practice. His career began as an instructor of law at Arba Minch University, where he also held the position of research and community service coordinator within the school of law. Yohannes started legal practice in October 2015, advising both individual and corporate clients across a wide spectrum of legal matters. Currently, his practice mainly focuses on business, commercial, contract, real estate, finance, and construction dispute resolutions.

  • Obtained favorable court decision for an importer against additional tariff, interest and penalty claims by Ethiopian Customs Commission.
  • Successfully represented a number of individuals on successions, land, contracts, possessory actions and family matter litigations
  • Obtained dismissal of all claims by employees of a construction company for the payment of severance pay, notice period and payment for delay.
  • Obtained favorable court decisions for a real estate company against a residential real estate purchasers’ undue claim
  • Successfully defended the interest of a shareholder of a private limited company in a company dissolution dispute
  • Assisted a foreign construction company to settle its disputes with sub-contractors outside a court of law thorough negotiation
